Our Polish family

Our time in Glisno Wielkie was amazing. It sits on a 7km long lake and is surrounded by forest. We rehearsed everyday to prepare for the tour and there couldn’t have been a better place. The town of about 120 people completely welcomed us and their hospitality was incredible.

Our polish mama & papa, Bogdan and Elizabeth, took the greatest care of us. Not only did they offer their home as our rehearsal space for 3 weeks, but they helped us get musical equipment, fed us polish food and A LOT of polish vodka and also became our polish band managers, arranging a Function concert in Glisno (more on that later).

The children of the town also became our dear friends. We were befriended by two girls in particular Monika and Agata. Their parents ran the one and only sklep (shop) in town. Monika was a striking 15 year old who was an incredible help to us. She would come to watch us rehearse, invite us to swim in the lake and saved our asses as a translator. Agata was a constant ray of sunshine. She had an amazing smile and the most adorable laugh that would make the grumpiest person smile. She could not speak English but did well to communicate her love for us and she gave me a ring and a figurine so as she said “I would never forget her”.
